Beautiful Rose

Kia ora

I found this beautiful rose last year when I was wandering through the rose garden at Hagley Park in Christchurch, Aotearoa/New Zealand. The beauty of the standard rose was made even more so by the nest of tiny birds nestled in the curve of the branches. What surprised me most was that I was the only one who noticed these baby thrushes in a very busy rose garden.

Lupins at Hanmer

Kia ora

Tonight I have completed two new desktops. The first is of a Russell Lupin found at the bach we stayed at in Hanmer. The Russell Lupin has become a weed, often found in our high country, and looks beautiful when found en masse as it is in these areas, although it also destroys the eco system of our riverbeds.

I hope you like it.

Hanmer Springs

Kia ora

Christmas was spent at Hanmer this year. A beautiful thermal springs area of North Canterbury, Hanmer has been a relaxing place for me for many years, a place to get away from the stresses of life.

On the doorstep of the Southern Alps that divide the South Island east from west, Hanmer is usually one of the hottest in the South Island, along with Alexandra in Central Otago.

Abby came along, too. Abby is my cat and she travels wherever I travel and she gets to enjoy many different things, such as running up and down trees and down rabbit holes whenever we stop somewhere for a break.

This photo, above, shows Abby enjoying the views of Hanmer all the way over towards the Lewis Pass and the Southern Alps.

Cathedral Cliffs, Gore Bay, North Canterbury

Kia ora

Yesterday, Christmas Day, was spent travelling from Hanmer Springs home, to Christchurch, via the coastal roads, after spending a few days relaxing in the hot pools at Hanmer, a beautiful spot in the mountains with wonderful thermal pools giving a rejuvenating experience to many, myself included. We met lots of others also sunning themselves in the pools, enjoying time away from the busy Christmas period.

We popped in to view the Cathedral Cliffs just south of Gore Bay in North Canterbury. How beautiful they are. Out of the way of the main tourist route, these cliffs would not be seen by those who don't go off the main path [route]. With the beautiful Gore Bay in the background, the Cathedrals are a breathtaking sight.

Hope you enjoyed your Christmas.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I hope the holiday season brings you much joy, love and laughter.

Those going away for the break, keep safe on the roads.

Take care.

New Beginnings

Kia ora

Thinking about the New Year, I decided to do another desktop with a Māori theme. Te Koru is the spiral of the new frond of the fern and represents new beginnings, which made me think of a new year.

You may download a zip of two sizes here.

I hope you like this desktop.

Pohutukawa, the tree of Christmas

Kia ora

December already!

For those who enjoy Christmas, I have completed a new desktop showing our beautiful Christmas tree, the Pohutukawa. This stunning tree has the most gorgeous red flowers and is seen around Aotearoa/New Zealand, mainly in the North Island, although we have the brighter red Southern Rata in the South, flowering during the Summer months.
